Planted in the spring of 2008, Flatridge Ranch is eight acres in size and located in the cool Sonoma Coast Appellation. At 1,100 feet elevation, the growing season is long with warm days and cool nights. Because of the elevation and the influence of the Pacific Ocean, less than 10 miles to the west, the shift in temperature from high to low is less than in the warmer inland valleys. This phenomenon allows for longer ripening and flavor development in varieties like Zinfandel. The soils are rich, red and volcanic in origin. The plant source for this vineyard is selected from vines that are over 100 years old and known as the St. Peters Church selection because of its proximity to the St. Peters Church in Cloverdale, California.
