Vineyard Grafting

Field grafting is an important technique deployed in vineyards around the world. This means that the root of the plant is a different strain than the canes, canopy and fruit that grow from it.

The main reason for doing this is to strengthen delicate grape varietals by giving them a heartier and often more pest resistant rootstock.
It can also be beneficial for changing the varietal in a vineyard without needing to replant and lose any of the crop. When you plant a brand new vineyard, it take 3-5 years before there is a viable winemaking crop.
