Exploring the Craft of Winemaking

Sonoma County grapes on a conveyer belt

Welcome to Alexander Valley, in the heart of Sonoma County, where Trione winemaker, John Duckett, crafts terroir-driven wines from sun-soaked vineyards.

As harvest nears, John routinely checks flavor development and sugar content across our five estate ranches. After a three-week delay, the grapes have reached full ripeness and are showing abundant natural acidity and exceptional varietal characteristic. Working closely with vineyard manager Kris Hicks, John ensures each grape is picked at its peak. This year’s harvest promises wines of unparalleled depth and character.

As the grapes are delivered to the winery, John and his team carefully sort through each cluster with precision. Only the finest clusters are selected, preserving the elegance of Trione’s legacy and setting the stage for a refined vintage.

In the cellar, open-top fermenters fill up with juicy red berries on their way to becoming wine. Native yeasts, nurtured by Sonoma County’s terroir, work their magic. John oversees this transformation, ensuring each drop embodies the region’s essence.

The young wines mature in oak barrels under John’s careful eye. As the wines age in the barrel they gain complexity and subtle wood nuances, becoming a harmonious symphony of flavors.

As you enjoy a glass of Trione wine, you’re savoring more than just a drink — you’re experiencing a narrative of craftsmanship and legacy. Each sip reflects John’s expertise and the Trione family’s dedication to excellence.

Join us in raising a glass to incredible fruit, winemaking artistry, and to the passion that fills every bottle.
