Trione 2020 Sauvignon Blanc

The 2020 vintage can be best described by the film “Back to the Future”, it was 2019 all over again. The season began perfectly. The larger than average crops of 2018 and 2019 would logically mean that 2020 would be a relatively lighter crop, which it was. There was little thinning to do in 2020. There were challenges presented by Mother Nature, which we dealt with by harvesting early and managing skin contact more diligently. It was a year of anticipation and thankfulness in every aspect. It was a reminder that agriculture is a complicated endeavor which should be respected at all times.

The making of the 2020 Sauvignon Blanc utilized traditional methods of hand-harvesting and whole bunch pressing to ensure the highest quality juice. The South African yeast strain Alchemy II was used for the fermentation. This yeast strain imparts fresh gooseberry and grassiness to the wine that balances the fresh fruit components on the palate and finish. If you close your eyes and sip, you may see visions of the Loire Valley or perhaps the Marlborough region of the South Island of New Zealand.

Tasting Notes

The 2020 Trione Sauvignon Blanc is a rich expression of the varietal. Honeydew melons, nectarines, and white peach all come to mind when tasting this wine. It is a great example of Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The pairings are almost too numerous to mention …except for my favorites, Beau Soleil oysters, Brillat-Savarin cheese and a fresh baguette. Cheers!

GuacamoleNo big bash is complete without a good guacamole dip! Here is Jess’ rendition of the classic Mexican appetizer. Use romaine lettuce as chips instead of the salty tortillas to cut on calories, to save for more wine!
