Sustaining Our Winery’s Commitment to the Planet

Alexander Valley Home Ranch at Trione Winery

As Earth Day approaches, we are filled with a renewed sense of responsibility and dedication to preserving our planet for future generations. At Trione, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a way of life ingrained in every aspect throughout our operations. This Earth Day, we proudly reaffirm our commitment to environmental stewardship with a pledge to implement and uphold sustainable practices across the operation.

In our pursuit of sustainability, we recognize the critical role our winery plays in minimizing our environmental footprint. From vineyard to bottle, we are dedicated to making conscious choices that prioritize the health of the planet. Here’s how we’re putting our commitment into action:

At the Winery:

1. Diam Cork Closures: We have transitioned to using Diam cork closures, a sustainable alternative to traditional cork. By embracing Diam, we ensure that our wines maintain their quality while significantly reducing the environmental impact associated with cork production.

2. Domestically Produced Glass Bottles: Our choice of glass bottles is deliberate. We prioritize domestically produced glass to support local economies and minimize the carbon footprint associated with transportation.

3. Lighter Weight Glass: Conscious of the energy required in production and transportation, we opt for lighter weight glass bottles for all of the new releases. By reducing the weight of our packaging, we decrease emissions and energy consumption throughout the supply chain.

4. Eliminating Styrofoam from Shipping: We’ve bid farewell to Styrofoam in our shipping process. Instead, we utilize eco-friendly alternatives that are biodegradable and pose minimal harm to the environment.

5. Solar Panels: With the installation of solar panels spanning the roof of our cellar building we are harnessing the sun’s energy to power our operation. By utilizing solar panels, we reduce our dependence on harmful energy sources and mitigate their negative impacts on the environment. Additionally, solar power helps to alleviate strain on the electrical grid, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy system.

In the Vineyards:

1. Cover Cropping: Our vineyards are not just fields of grapes; they are thriving ecosystems. Through cover cropping, we enhance soil fertility, prevent erosion, and promote biodiversity, creating healthier vineyards and a more resilient environment.

2. Natural Pest Control: We encourage natural solutions for pest management, prioritizing techniques such as beneficial insect habitat enhancement and biodiversity promotion. By minimizing reliance on synthetic pesticides, we safeguard the health of our soils and surrounding ecosystems.

3. Careful Water Management: Water is a precious resource, especially in the context of winemaking. We practice meticulous water management techniques, including drip irrigation and soil moisture monitoring, to ensure that every drop is used efficiently and sustainably.

4. Certified Sustainable Farming: We are proud to have been certified by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance since 2017. Each of our vineyard ranches hold this certification that recognizes our dedication to producing premium grapes while exercising practices that protect our environment and our future.

As we celebrate Earth Day, we invite you to join us in our commitment to sustainability. Together, we can raise a glass to a brighter, greener future-one where every sip of wine is a toast to the planet we call home.
